Gym, Meet Social Club

Gyms are no longer just the domain of He-Men and other walking fitness stereotypes. Many men and women of all ages, body types, and backgrounds are now finding their health club to be one of their social centers and a way to kick off an evening out with friends.
Mind you, we’re not talking about those days when you need to quickly get your workout in, crank out your 10,000 steps, crush leg day, etc. When time allows, there is a joy that comes from getting together with a few friends to laugh, burn some calories, and sweat a bit before heading out for an evening of good old-fashioned fun.
For years, we’ve seen this trend grow with FitMe Wellness’ evening classes. Women getting together for a bit of Zumba before heading out for an evening on the town. This trend has grown and now includes a small group of 60-something men who get together at FitMe on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons to work out (and laugh) with a personal trainer for an hour before they head out for happy hour at one of our many local establishments.
FitMe has even taken this concept further with our partnership with Prairie Street Brewery for our Ale Yeah! Yoga and Brews program, lead by our esteemed instructor (and Fit815 contributor) Nicole Messink. On four Sunday afternoons a year, Nicole instructs 60 students in an all-levels yoga class right at the brewery. This relaxing interlude then leads into enjoying a brew on the dock and a healthy snack. Old friendships are renewed, and new friendships are born.
Finding your fit can be fun, too. You just have to get started.
